Scythe was so angry. Full of frustration, he growled and slashed at the stifling sand below him. It burned his paws, and the heat was driving him crazy! He felt as if he was going to fly out of his fur. How could he have been so stupid as to come here? Sure, other wolves survived and thrived in the desert parts, but he despised the heat and the atmosphere. So why had the gray wolf come to the desert? He was seeking something. I guess it could be said that he was on a quest... but due to his low tolerance for annoyances like high temperatures and scorpions and snakes and scorching sand, he was growing very weary and discouraged. Plus, he wanted to sink his fangs into a tree, snap it in half and take his rage out on that. There was just one problem; there were no trees! Scythe was, however, in search of a lost ancient weapon; a scythe! It was not an ordinary weapon though. It was a Dawnbreaker Scythe, which could send the souls of the unrighteous to their knees. It was said to give its wielder many special powers and blessings. Scythe was in search of this sickle-like weapon to defeat the terribly malicious male wolf that had taken his pack over and driven him out. He had taken the females for himself as slaves, being one of the unrighteous. Therefore, with the Dawnbreaker Scythe, the young gray wolf was unstoppable. His history was the only reason that he put one paw in front of the other in this hot wasteland. He would save his family, and he would not stop until he found the Holy Weapon.

Solaris | Lone Wolf For once, Solaris was finally happy about his rather flat coat. It was still hot, of course, but any wolf better built for colder weather likely would have overheated almost instantly. The coarse sand was annoying, he had to admit, and he was already beginning to daydream about finding a nice creek or a pond. The lack of shelter was also a bit disconcerting.. he usually took comfort in the fact that he was rather good at hiding among the trees, not that he ever really needed to. His 'conversation partner', as Solaris had condescendingly dubbed him, had been awfully quiet the past few hours or so. Normally he would count it as a blessing, but in a desert with nothing to see but yellow hills of sand, he was bored out of his mind. Figures the demon would stop talking now. He usually liked to chime in with a comment on how naive Solaris was acting, or how weak whichever wolf they came across was. Solaris had learned to pay no mind to these comments, because he had come to expect little else from the demon. 'Perhaps you should find some water to drink before you perish and I am sealed away for a thousand years for your idiocy,' Oryx spat, causing Solaris to give a huff of a laugh. The demon wasn't entirely in tune to the physical state of Solaris, but he could tell when his vessel was getting tired, thirsty or whatnot. "Okay, Mother," Solaris replied in a mocking tone, hoping to get a rise out of the demon. It worked. 'Do not call me such a thing. My existance is far beyond the likes of yours. Which is why I know that there is another mortal nearby, and you have yet to notice.'"Hm?" Solaris hummed softly, wondering if what Oryx said was true about someone being nearby. A quick scan of his surroundings, and it turned out the demon was right. Off in the distance, a dark-colored wolf was making their way through the desert just like Solaris was. If he had to guess, it seemed the stranger was walking perpendicular to his own direction, which meant he would soon meet up with the stranger if they both continued on their paths. Once again, Solaris found himself hoping that this wolf was not one to judge wolves by their appearance, since his wasn't a particularly inviting one. "Solaris speech." | 'Oryx speech.'

If Scythe did not come across a waterhole, an oasis, or something that reminded him of the world more suited to wolves of his kind, then he was going to implode. He was constantly complaining to himself in thoughts as he walked onward. There was a slight hill ahead of him, so he could not see beyond it being down lower, but he hoped to God that there was something of worth--anything would do at this point--at the top. Someone walking directly in his direction would be able to see him, and this new thought fed his paranoia. He trusted no one, not after what he had experienced with Eru and all the events related to him and his birth pack. Then again, why would any wolf want to even set foot in the desert? Chances were that he would not run into anyone. The sand got between his webbed wolf paws, in his fur, and when the wind blew the sand would sometimes get in his eyes... and that was annoying as hell! Scythe hated everything about this region, and he was very, very eager to get out. How big could this place be, seriously? His body felt like an oven within himself, and a part of him wanted to curl up and cry. He felt hopeless; it was a very real threat that he could perish from thirst and starvation out here. So, wanting to speed his journey through the barren desert Scythe leaped ahead and dashed through the sand and up the hill. Once he was at the top, he expected to see nothing with sand, again. However, what he saw was something caused him to gaze in shock. His mouth dropped in awe and fear and desperation, all at the same time. He saw another wolf. He was frozen; he did not know what he should do now.

Solaris | Lone Wolf Solaris continued on his way, making his way toward the dark-colored wolf. He tried to look as relaxed and non-threatening as possible, but it probably wasn't working. 'It appears afraid,' Oryx observed, who was able to see through Solaris' eyes. "You think? We're probably the only two living things for miles, he probably just doesn't want to get into a fight. I don't either," Solaris replied with a huff. Leave it up to the immortal demon of chaos and madness to state the obvious. 'Kill it then, an imbecile like you should at least be able to manage that,' Oryx replied. Solaris shook his head, wondering if the demon knew him at all, or if he was just trying to get on his nerves again. Probably the latter. "I know better than to judge strength and smarts by looks. If you did the same, you'd probably still be rampaging right now instead of sealed inside the sould of an 'imbecile'," Solaris answered with a grin. "Now stop talking, I'm not going to answer you while we're within earshot. I already look like a freak of nature, I don't need to come off as someone who talks to the voices in his head as well."'I will kill you when I'm finally released..' Oryx mumbled in protest, but with nothing else to say, he fell silent. Solaris stopped a fair distance away from the stranger at the top of the sand hill, but close enough to be heard. "Hello, friend. You wouldn't happen to know if there's any water nearby, would you? I've been in this cursed desert for a while." Once again, Solaris tried to look as friendly as possible, if it was even possible. The red eyes certainly didn't help, but they weren't too different in color from the stranger's blazing amber. Scythe stood tall and waited until the wolf arrived within earshot. He was not stupid, he wouldn't jump to conclusions about what the wolf intended for him. Not every one was bad, but one could not be too careful. The stranger's pelt was not like any he had ever seen before; with whites, greys and reds the traveler looked like a ghost or wraith of some kind. He didn't look very inviting, nor did he look friendly... but he supposed fur was only a result of genetics, right? It didn't necessarily mean he was actually shifty or bad. Standing with his side facing the strange wolf and glaring at him with sharp eyes, Scythe bristled his fur and was uncomfortable with all of this. The wolf asked him a question about where to find water, and it sort of calmed his fears a little bit. He seemed quite friendly; It would be hard for Scythe to trust anyone out here, and there would always be the thought of uncertainty in the back of his mind, but the gray wolf began to feel comfortable loosening up and releasing his tense muscles. "Unfortunately no," Scythe responded with a frown of remorse, as his thirst for cold fresh water was peaking right now, especially at the mention of it. It was also strange getting the words out and using his tongue to form them; he had not spoken in weeks... maybe even months. He'd been alone for a long, long time with no one to speak with. "I was looking for the same thing out here." Realizing something gloomy, he added to his reply, "You are coming from the direction I am headed, and you did not come across any water on the way?" If the wolf had not, then that meant that Scythe was walking onward for no reason. If he did find water within the next few days, then he would perish no matter how much he wanted to continue on for his family to find the Dawnbreaker. Wanting to know quickly who he was speaking with, he lifted his head and shot the new wolf a glare mixed with friendliness as well as that little bit of carefulness that remained in him, "Who are you, by the way? I am... my name is Scythe."

Solaris | Lone Wolf The stranger was cautious, Sol could tell, but he expected as much. Usually the ones who reacted that calmly to his presence were the ones who had seen plenty of evil things in their lifetime. Or, maybe he was just that open to the possibility that Solaris wasn't up to anything bad. He had just started to wonder if the other wolf was going to respond to his question when he finally spoke. The answer was, unfortunately, not what he was looking for. He got the feeling that the stranger was hoping for some good news from him as well, but he hadn't come across any water since entering the desert. "That's a shame. Dying of thirst wasn't on my agenda today," Solaris jokingly replied. He likely had at least a day, though he wasn't sure about the other wolf. Food was also a priority. He supposed it was possible there was a hidden oasis somewhere around, but wandering around the desert to look for it would be a terrible idea. "No, I haven't seen any water yet. Not since I started traveling through here, anyway," Solaris answered. If neither of them had seen water, it seemed logical to head in a new direction and hope for the best. Though while the other wolf spoke, Solaris began to take note of how formal he sounded. It was a stark contrast to his own informal way of speaking, and it made Sol wonder if the stranger came from some position of power. Solaris did a lot of traveling, and from his experience, a lot of pack leaders and other important wolves spoke that way. Then again, it was also possible that was just how he talked politely. The stranger, Scythe, he called himself, seemed to relax a bit. When he was done speaking, Sol took the opportunity to introduce himself as well. "You can call me Solaris. I'm trying to get to the other side of the land, figured it'd be easier to cut through the desert. It would appear I'm wrong." His ear then twitched at hearing a voice in his mind, the voice of Oryx. 'Perhaps if you had listened to me..'"Solaris speech." | 'Oryx speech.'

"I thought the same," Scythe replied, hanging his head low. If he had known that the desert wouldn't have any water whatsoever on his way, then he would not have come here, but he knew that the past could not be changed. So, the gray male wolf decided that there was only one thing to do now. "I suppose I must go another way then." He was about to ask where Solaris was headed, but he didn't want to seem rude, nor did he really want to get into that with anyone because then he'd be put on the spot to return an explanation; he would have to explain why he was making such a journey through the desert. "It is good to meet you, Solaris," Scythe said, with a friendly smile and soft glare in his amber eyes. It was very nice and relieving to meet another wolf in this wasteland, where thus far he had been alone without another soul around. Even as a loner, he ran into other lone wolves often, but not here. Except for Solaris. Looking around, he scanned the horizon all about him for a suitable direction to go in. He chose to head to his right, which was... the East? At least, judging by the sun, he thought it was. He did not move in that direction yet, but it was his plan to at one point. "Solaris," he began, "I must be off immediately. I have places I need to be, but it was very nice meeting you. Good luck with whatever you are after."OOC: It's shorter than usual, but the ending should give you an opportunity to have Sol go down the path of becoming friends with Scythe ^^ And join him on his journey maybe.

Solaris | Lone Wolf Solaris nodded in response when Scythe said it was good to meet him. "Likewise," he replied, returning the friendly smile with one of his own. Sol never stayed in the company of others for long, but that didn't mean he wasn't subject to loneliness. In fact, being so friendly by nature, it always hurt to leave in the end. But of course, he always had to, or else he risked getting too attatched. It wasn't a particularly happy existence, but it was the one he took on, so he had to live with it. And really, being an adventurer wasn't all that bad. Not when your travel partner was an imortal demon who's only desire was to see you cry so he could finally kill you. Never a dull moment. But Solaris was pulled from his thoughts when Scythe spoke again. Parting already? It was probably for the best.. but Solaris saw an opportunity he didn't want to pass up so easily. He took note of one of the words that Scythe used. Immediately. This wolf was one a mission of some sort, perhaps an important one. It piqued his interest, to say the least. "Could I ask, where are you headed in such a rush?" The thought came to Solaris that perhaps this wolf was running from someone, or something. If that were the case, it didn't sit right with him letting him run off to deal with it on his own. "If you'd like.. I could tag along. I'm not up to anything important, in fact, I'm just a wanderer. You seem like someone who's on an adventure."'You're too willing to help others. This is why you're a fool,' Oryx chastised him. But the demon didn't disprove of the idea; rather, he hoped that Solaris would finally befriend someone. And if the two were to set out on some dangerous adventure, there was the possibility that this new friend could die. Then, perhaps, he could finally be released. "Solaris speech." | 'Oryx speech.'

Scythe did not want to give away the reason why he was out here in the middle of nowhere, but he felt hard-pressed to give the loner a decent answer anyway. "I am searching for something," the young gray wolf said, turning his head away from Solaris to stare off into the distance where he was now heading. "A weapon."He hoped that what he had just said would not come and bite him in the butt one day, even though it was very low on detail. He had only mentioned that he was looking for a weapon of some kind. Though, he sensed through his instincts that Sol was a good wolf; he probably would not want to harm him. When he heard Solaris mention that he was just a loner and did not have any sort of important business to attend to, Scythe perked up slightly. This wolf wanted to tag along with him? Part of him knew that he could never trust anyone with the knowledge of his quest, just in case they tried to steal the Dawnbreaker Scythe for themselves, but the company in the meantime was more than welcome in Scythe's eyes. "I would love that, to be honest," he said smiling, lashing his tail excitedly. "It's been a long time since I've traveled as a unit with another of my kind."

Solaris | Lone Wolf Solaris narrowed his gaze slightly at the mention of a weapon. He didn't sense any ill will in Scythe, but it wouldn't be the first time he was wrong. But this now brought the adventure into a new light. Weapons and artifacts were tricky; generally the more powerful they were, the more likely it was they could corrupt the user. Of course, he didn't know anything about this weapon Scythe was searching for, and if it even had any special powers, so it could be that his worries were unfounded. Though now it seemed like a good idea to tag along for reasons other than simple boredom. There would always be the chance to press Scythe for details about the weapon along the way. "Great," Solaris replied at Scythe's answer. "I can't remember the last time I traveled with someone. Part of being a lone wolf, I guess." He gave a slight smile at Scythe's enthusiasm. He began to wonder how long this search would take.. because, ultimately, he'd have to leave if he felt he and Scythe were becomming too good of friends, like he always did. Then again, he did want to stick around to see what this weapon he was searching for is capable of. It put him in a predicament. For now, he decided, he would follow Scythe and try not to become too involved. Meanwhile, Oryx knew what was going through Sol's head, and it made the demon chuckle. "I guess it's decided then. I appreciate you allowing me follow you," Solaris said, letting a spark of gratitude shine in his eyes. Scythe really didn't seem like a bad wolf at all, which did made Sol curious as to why he needed a weapon. "Solaris speech." | 'Oryx speech.'

Scythe
Never stop searching. Never give up.
"I can second that," the gray wolf said to Solaris, a laugh in his voice. He missed his family and his pack, but he missed hanging out with other wolves in general. The care that everyone showed each other and the hunting parties, and the chats over a meal in the dusk air below the trees... thinking deeply about all this fed his eager longing to be home with his birth pack, but it also helped him escape the desert for a moment. Those thoughts brought him back to the reason why he was even out here to begin with. To seek the Dawnbreaker Scythe, the only thing that could defeat the monstrous wolf that had stolen everything from him. He wouldn't say anything about it yet; Sol didn't seem shifty or anything, but Scythe did not want to say something he would regret later. After all, he was sure that most wolves would have need of the weapon, because someone evil had most likely effected the majority of lives. He needed it, and his family was his priority. "Of course!" Scythe exclaimed enthusiastically, "It gets lonely out here, as you must know being a lone wolf as well." He then began to laugh, "It certainly feels different being around someone who isn't looking to rip me to shreds or throw me to the pit."

Solaris | Lone Wolf Solaris began to wonder if Scythe had always been a lone wolf. Or if, perhaps, he had once been part of a pack like Solaris. He was almost certain it would come up in conversation at some point, like many other things he was eager to know. Likewise, he also knew at one point or another Scythe would learn about Oryx. It was always only a matter of time, and it wasn't as if Solaris tried very hard to hide it. Though he did usually wait until he knew a wolf a little better before telling them about it. But Solaris couldn't forget the main reason why he wanted to travel with Scythe, and that was the weapon he was after. He couldn't say that he was against Scythe finding said weapon, he only wanted to make sure it wasn't capable of large-scale destruction. He suspected he'd learn more about it along the way, when Scythe felt more comfortable with talking about it. "Yes, I definitely know. I actually prefer to travel with others, but I never stick around for long, especially when our journeys take us in separate directions," Solaris explained. He couldn't help but smile slightly and Scythe's enthusiasm, though. Then the last sentence really caught his attention. "You really have that many enemies? And I thought I was bad at making friends.""Solaris speech." | 'Oryx speech.'
